Late last year it was reported that Zack Snyder was looking to introduce Mera – Aquaman’s wife and Queen of Atlantis in 2017’s Justice League. The Hollywood Reporter then mentioned that Amber Heard (Pineapple Express, Zombieland) was currently in talks with the studio to bring the Atlantian Queen to the silver screen. We heard nothing from the studio, the director James Wan, or the actress herself. With pre-production for Justice League Part One just about finished, the actress spoke to Entertainment Tonight about Mera’s current costume development, which confirms that Amber Heard as Mera is a done deal. Her contract is most likely a muli-picture deal. We’ll see her pop up in some capacity in Justice League: Part One, and also in Aquaman‘s solo film in 2018. Check out what she had to say about the Queen’s costume:
It’s interesting. It’s like, half suit of armor, half scales. It’s strange… We’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along.
Queen Mera is one of the most powerful females in the entire DC Universe. With powers like hydrokinesis – which grants her the ability to form water constructs, she is a force to be reckoned with and will be a great addition to the fast growing DC Extended Universe. Mera: The Queen Of Atlantis makes her cinematic debut when Justice League: Part One hits theaters on November 17th, 2017.
