Ever since it was revealed that Ben Affleck would don the cape and cowl, there has been an uproar among fans that he will not deliver, let alone top Christian Bale’s portrayal of the Dark Knight. While some regard Bale as the best actor to play Batman, he does not agree.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Bale was quoted saying,
“I didn’t manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy.”
It is true, Ben Affleck’s batsuit is much more comic accurate than Bale’s was, and some scenes in the BvS trailer did look like they were straight out of The Dark Knight Returns, but Bale did bring some of Batman’s iconic traits to the big screen; the brutality towards criminals, the detective and forensic knowledge, and he will always be remembered for introducing the legendary “Batman voice”. Unfortunately, he just doesn’t see himself in the same light. To add insult to injury, Bale believes Heath Ledger stole his spotlight in The Dark Knight.
“Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans…He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.”
Ledger took the already beloved Clown Prince of Crime and made fans love him even more. He created an amazing dynamic between his character and Bale’s Batman, and it is true that many fans would agree he stole the show with that role. In this particular installment, it seems reasonable that he would be upset over being out-shined. However, he still delivered a Caped Crusader that resonated with fans through each film, as well as with the director. Unfortunately, more information in regard to Christian Bale’s disappointment wasn’t given at the time, so the definite reason for his self-diagnosed shortcoming may not be revealed.
What do you guys think? Do you agree with Christian Bale that he didn’t deliver as the Dark Knight, or do you believe that he will remain the best Batman, even once Batman v Superman releases later this month? Let us know in the comments!
