We’ve heard so many terms when it comes to the next “Captain America” movie: ‘Civil War’. Names thrown around like political thriller, super-powered war movie, ‘Avengers 2.5’..Love story? That’s what Joe Russo the director says! All Bucky-Steve jokes aside, Russo stresses that their relationship is much more than your typical bromance.
“These are two guys who grew up together and so they have that same emotional connection to each other as brothers would, and even more so because Bucky was all Steve had growing up.”
Russo then explains that it’s a complex love story. Brainwashed or not, Bucky still has a lot to redeem after being the most feared assassin in the MCU for the last 50 years. At this point, we don’t even know if those days are over. Maybe the brainwashing has a residual effect and he switches back to that phase every once in a while. Maybe he doesn’t know when to stop killing. While Steve’s main motto is loyalty and righteousness, would he be prepared to be loyal to someone who (albeit isn’t aware) is wrong? We’ve seen more than our fair share of tussles with Tony Stark over Bucky. ‘Captain America: Civil War’ comes out May 6th.
