Still with me? Sweet, let’s get it going. Following the release of BvS, there has been a lot of confusion among fans regarding that mysterious box thing that formed Cyborg’s body in his cameo, particularly among those that aren’t very familiar with the DC comic books. That box, my friends, was a Mother Box. In the DC universe, Mother Boxes are alien supercomputers that function sort of like a symbiont; they choose a host to attach to, and then protect that host by any means necessary, sometimes going beyond the physical laws of whatever dimension they’re in at that point in time.
Basically, from a human perspective, they grant their host pretty much unlimited power, as they have been shown to manipulate space, time and reality. Since the scene in the movie suggests that Cyborg came into being through a mother box, this would explain his abilities as a ‘technopath’ – he can mind-meld with any kind of technology.
Here’s what director Zack Snyder said about that:
“I really wanted to show Cyborg’s birth because I feel like he plays such a strong part coming up, and I really wanted to give a sense of him. I really want [the audience] to know how far he’s come.”
Cyborg will make his next appearance in Justice League Part One, which is scheduled to release in November 2017, while the Cyborg solo movie is set for April 3, 2020.
