First Details Of R-Rated ‘Batman V Superman’ Blu-Ray Cut Released

Last week when it was announced by the MPAA that the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice would be R-rated, not only did fans begin speculating on what kind of content would be featured in this cut, but also if Deadpool‘s current success at the box office played a part in the decision for this adult version of the film. Keep in mind that Batman v Superman finished filming long before Deadpool even started, so it’s highly unlikely that the Merc With The Mouth had anything to do with Dawn of Justice‘s R-Rated Blu-Ray cut. Still, fans are eager to get their hands on this version to see what kinds of things Snyder left out of the version that’s set to release in theaters on March 25th. What we know so far is that Jena Malone’s secret character has been cut from the theatrical version of the movie. It’s been heavily rumored that Malone will be playing Barbara Gordon in a flashback/dream sequence had by Bruce Wayne, where he witnesses Barbara getting shot in the spine and crippled by The Joker. Thankfully we can put this rumor to rest thanks to Zack Snyder. Here’s what he had to say:

“I think we should keep it private, but it’s nothing that’s been talked about. She’s definitely not Robin or Batgirl. Im happy to say that.”

It’s kind of unfortunate that Malone won’t be portraying Barbara Gordon in Batman v Superman. Many fans, including myself, think she’d make a great addition to the BatFamily. Alas, the search goes on for the true identity of Jena Malone’s character! Snyder goes on to say that there are some minor characters in the theatrical cut of the film that are given expanded storylines.  This confirms that there will be other characters besides Malone’s that were cut from the original release that will appear in this R-cut.

“There’s a couple, like Ahamn Green, the running back from the Green Bay Packers, he’s in it. And C.T. Fletcher is like this bodybuilder muscle-guru from Compton, this awesome guy. He’s amazing and he’s in it. And then there’s just a lot of these Easter Eggs in the Director’s Cut that I think are gonna be fun for everyone.”

The Dawn of Justice director also states that there’s a HUGE Justice League Easter Egg in the film.

“There’s one giant one that i wont tell you about yet that speaks to what’s gonna go on in the greater Justice League universe.”

Sounds like we fans may have to see the film multiple times in order to catch every Easter Egg and reference! Lastly, Batman v Superman producer Charles Roven spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the Directors’s Cut and what fans should expect:

“First of all, don’t expect to see a lot of blood in the R-rated version. There’s not a lot of blood in our movies. The ratings board also judges their PG-13 and R-ratings by what they consider to be a level of intensity and how much that intensity goes throughout the entire movie. There are some pretty intense scenes in Batman v Superman, and if they went on longer and had that same level of intensity, that might cause the ratings board to shift their rating.”

This definitely clears up some of the speculation that fans had ever since the announcement. An R-rating doesn’t always mean the film will contain strong language, nudity, and graphic violence. In Batman v Superman‘s case, it seems that the R-rating is solely for the intense sequences in the film. Something tells me one of those scenes might involve a certain Caped Crusader branding some baddies. Sounds like fun!

3 weeks to go folks, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally makes its way to cinemas on March 25, 2016.
