One of the most memorable characters from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy, besides the wall-crawler himself, is J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson.
Entertainment Weekly got to talk with Simmons on the blue carpet at the Film Independent Spirit Awards and ask him about his interest in taking on the role again; he had this to say:
“Those movies with Sam was one of the great joys of my career, and it was a super fun character, so I’ll never close the door on anything.”
It sounds like he would be just as excited to portray the editor in chief of the Daily Bugle fans would be to see it. Unfortunately, this is totally in the studio’s court. A petition has been circulating to get Simmons’ to reprise his role as Jameson, and hopefully Marvel and Sony will listen to their fans and approach J.K. Simmons about coming on board the upcoming reboot. A similar rumor floated around during the time of the Amazing Spider-Man reboot, however some of the backlash it received was that having the same actor play the same character in two separate franchises might be a bit confusing.
