In a recent inter view with Entertainment Weekly Patty Jenkins, director for the upcoming DC film Wonder Woman, is revealing a few facts about the female heroine and her fellow Amazonians.
This picture features Wonder Woman’s mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), her two military aunts – General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli) and of course Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) herself.
The Amazon’s armor is obviously heavily based off of ancient Greek battle armor as well as their surroundings but Charles Roven, producer for the film, adds that Themyscira is more than that.
Roven: “It’s a place that has the ‘you’ve never been to’ kind of feel. But once you’re there you’re not so sure you really want to leave so fast.”
Jenkins also had comments on the outfits, armor of the Amazonian warriors.
Jenkins: “To me, they shouldn’t be dressed in armor like men, it should be different. It should be authentic and real – and appealing to women.” Jenkins continues, “I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time – the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs.”
