Zack Snyder On Bringing The Justice League To The Big Screen

This month, Batman v Superman marks the official dawn of the Justice League. With the additions of characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Flash to the Man of Steel universe, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are almost ready to assemble arguably the best superhero lineup in all of comics. Like The Avengers, bringing an iconic team like this to the big screen is no small task for anyone. WIRED Magazine had a chance to sit down with Dawn of Justice and Justice League director Zack Snyder about Batman v Superman sets up the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) and the introduction of the other Justice Leaguers. However, the first topic of the interview wasn’t Batman v Superman, but the ending of Man of Steel. Check it out:

“To me, the killing of Zod is not as big a deal as the destruction of Metropolis. It’s important that these movies have consequences, that there is collateral damage. In Batman v Superman I wanted to show how Bruce Wayne feels when reduced to a sideline sitter. Batman is frightened by his impotence in the face of that.”

The destruction of Metropolis was one of the biggest gripes fans had with Man of Steel, but it seems that all the destruction was for a very important purpose: to be the catalyst for the beginning of the DC Cinematic Universe. Snyder goes on to talk about the introduction of Wonder Woman to this quickly growing universe and why she’s been featured heavily in the film’s promotional material:

“Female empowerment is a thing I’ve gone after in all my film. They all have a strong female representation. It’s about time Wonder Woman was represented correctly.”

Zack Snyder also goes on to talk about the other members of the Justice League and how him and his team had to be “strict” when it came to their rules:

“We’ve been strict with our rules. What they can do – Batman, Superman, Flash, Cyborg – we really are hard on ourselves because we all want those things to have a reality, a mythological grounding.”

Fans won’t have to wait long to catch a glimpse of some of their favorite Justice Leaguers in Batman v Superman, as Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg are set to cameo, with others like Green Lantern rumored to appear also.
