Chris Evans Talks His Marvel Contract And Handing Down The Shield

With Chris Evans now having completed five of his original six movies that were outlined in his initial Marvel contract, fans are starting to wonder how much longer they will see the current Captain America on screen. In the last couple of years there has been plenty of speculation as to whether or not some of the original cast will return to their roles after 2019 when ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2’ comes out but Chris Evans’ comments in a recent interview with Collider make it sound like he loves being a part of these movies:

“I was just saying in my last interview that it’s so funny thinking about how fast time has moved. We started this in 2010 and six years has gone in the blink of an eye. In the beginning it was so terrifying and now I’m scared to walk away, I’m scared to not have one of these coming. For the past six years there’s always been ‘next year we start that one’ and it’s been wonderful especially cause the movies are so good. When you make good movies, who wants to stop doing that?”

Chris Evans’ current contract, as well as those of his Avenger co-stars, officially ends after ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2’. However there is always the possibility for a renewal. Chris Evans elaborates:

“There’s no re-upping yet…I know in the comic books that the shield gets passed of and what you do know, more than anything else in this process…the character is bigger than you and whatever the character needs, whatever Marvel needs for that arc, I’m willing to do. So if that is me passing it of, I’ll pass it off but if they want to make more, I’m ready.”

One of the main theories that has been around before is that Cap’s best friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) will take up the mantle of “Captain America” as the actor initially signed on for nine movies. What some people may not realise is that this doesn’t guarantee Sebastian Stan’s appearance in nine movies. All that means is that IF Marvel wants to have Sebastian Stan in a movie then he is contractually obligated to return until the nine movies in his contract have been fulfilled, but Marvel doesn’t need to use Sebastian Stan or Bucky Barnes if they don’t want to. So far Sebastian Stan has appeared in three movies (including ‘Captain America: Civil War’). In the comic books Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson have both taken on the mantle from Steve Rogers and while it is possible that this could happen in the movies, it sounds like the actors are happy where they are.
