‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Premiere ‘Monster’ Review

This review contains mild spoilers from this episode of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’

The second season of AMC’s ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ premiered tonight. The episode is titled ‘Monster’ and takes place immediately after the season one finale. Here is the synopsis:

“The families flee a burning Los Angeles on Strand’s yacht, as Strand remains mysterious. Meanwhile, the group encounters danger at sea.”

Season one of ‘Fear’ was mostly a set up for the world we know and love from the flagship show. It had to set up all new characters and an all new location at the beginning of a zombie apocalypse we were already many years into. This made a lot of the character’s decisions maddening as the viewers already knew what was going on and how to act, because we had all seen the main show. While it maybe a unfair criticism of the show, this added to the already slow burn of season one, making it seem even slower. I remember really enjoying only two episodes of season one, the episode containing the riots and the finale. That being said, this episode is a promising start to the new season and really starts to offer some meaty bits of the apocalypse we had been craving. Taking to a yacht and finding zombies in the water from a wrecked ship and talking to mysterious people over the radio plant the seeds of mystery and suspense of what is to come. From the opening shots of a burning Los Angeles to the zombies in the water, this is a great start to a hopefully great season.
