Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons, one of the several new academy award nominated cast members in the DCEU, recently spoke in an interview in regards to his screen time in the upcoming DC films. Simmons’ first film, Justice League: Part 1, will feature many other new characters that must also be introduced into the cinematic universe’s expanding lineup of characters. Director Zack Snyder may have his hands full in regards to managing how often we will see these new characters on screen in the first JL movie, so Simmons was recently asked in an interview how much viewers can expect to see him portray Jim Gordon, to which he replied:
“I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small. I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series.”
Simmons continued to speak on not only his screen time in Justice League: Part 1, but for the several films in which he is scheduled to appear afterwards:
“I’m going into a thing that hopefully will be 2, 3, 4, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small. But obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don’t think I would find that to be productive. So, I’ll do my take.”
It appears Jim Gordon will merely be introduced in Justice League: Part 1, but he can be expected to have bigger and more important roles in the following movies. These movies include the Batman solo films, in which we will hopefully have some great interactions between J.K. Simmons’ Jim Gordon and Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight.
J.K. Simmons’ first portrayal of Jim Gordon will be in Justice League: Part 1 which will hit theaters on November 17th, 2017.
