Jessica Henwick has officially been cast as Colleen Wing for Netflix and Marvel’s upcoming Iron Fist. She has recently had small roles in both Game Of Thrones, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The role is described as the female lead on the show, “an invaluable ally to Iron Fist as he returns to his life in New York.” She joins Finn Jones, who will play the title role of Danny Rand aka Iron Fist.
Wing, is a character created by Doug Moench and Larry Hama in 1974 who is a martial arts expert, and frequently teams up with the likes of Iron Fist and Luke Cage. She specializes in swordsmanship as well as Japanese martial arts. She is also one half of the “Daughters Of The Dragon” alongside Misty Knight.
Iron Fist, the Fourth addition to the Marvel-Netflix series, is now in development and will likely release sometime in 2017. Marvel TV also has Luke Cage and Jessica Jones Season 2 in active development, with The Defenders team-up mini-series to follow.
Marvel later confirmed the casting, releasing the teaser image above and offering up some new details. Colleen Wing will run her own dojo in the series.
“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner, Scott Buck in the official release. “She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “And as anyone who’s seen her in Game of Thrones can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen.”
