Robert Downey Jr. Talks ‘Sherlock 3’

After collectively making just over $1 billion in the box office, fans continue to wonder if there will ever be a ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ starring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street and Jude Law as John Watson. Robert Downey Jr. spoke with Shortlist and revealed his thoughts on when it will arrive:

We’re talking about it right now.  We can do some preliminary stuff. If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole movie done in a week. When we’re making those ‘Sherlock’ movies it is off the hook. We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.”

In the last few years Robert Downey Jr.’s schedule has been filled with projects such as ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, ‘The Judge’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’. It is also likely that he will appear in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ which begins filming towards the end of this year. It is possible that they could get the bulk of Downey’s acting done before he starts filming ‘Infinity War’ and even if they didn’t one of the benefits of being Iron Man is that once the helmet closes, Downey doesn’t need to be on set.

The first ‘Sherlock Holmes’ movie, which had a budget of $90 million, was released in 2009 and made just over $524 million worldwide. The sequel, ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’, which ended with Holmes faking his own death, was released in 2011, with an increased budget  of  $125 million, and made just over $545 million worldwide. The movies make money and Downey Jr. has said on numerous occasions that he is going to try and make a third film, so its not unreasonable for fans to expect a third movie.

If you can’t wait until then to see Robert Downey Jr. in action, catch him along side Chris Evans in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ on May 6th.
