With Wonder Woman wrapping up its principal photography in Italy last night, WB and DC have announced that the Amazonian Princess will be making her solo film debut a little earlier than initially announced. The film has been pushed up to June 2nd, 2017, 3 full weeks earlier than it’s original June 23rd release date. Also, following the box office success of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s being reported by “sources” who say that DC and Warners are thinking about releasing less superhero films in the coming years, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case. October 5th, 2018 and November 1st, 2019 are now the home of two unannounced films from DC. The current question is: what are they? I believe these are the two most obvious choices:
Oct 5, 2018:
Even with the scathing reviews of BvS from some critics, all of them agree that Ben Affleck absolutely knocked it out of the park as Bruce Wayne and Batman, and that they can’t wait to see more. Ben Affleck has also been working with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns on something, and has most recently finished writing the script for a Batman solo film. Director Zack Snyder was asked recently if Ben Affleck was currently trying to get the Batman film made he had this to say:
“…he’s always said he’s a one movie at a time guy.”
My guess is that after filming Justice League, we’re going to slowly hear more and more about the solo outing of the Dark Knight. If I had to make a guess, I would expect production for The Batman to begin early February or mid-April of next year in order to make that October 5th date.
The next date I had a pretty difficult time deciding which film we could see pop up on this date, so I’ll make cases for both films.
November 1st, 2019
Titans/Suicide Squad 2
Originally I was going to go with Shazam, but then I realized that the film already has an April 5th, 2019 release date. It’s still a possibility but I’ve decided not to use it. To be quite honest, there really isn’t any evidence to support that Titans is a film that DC is even looking to do. However, I could definitely see them try to introduce a new team of heroes after the events of Justice League: Part 2 in June of 2019. Who knows what kind of world and what kind of state the League will be in after that film. Perhaps members of the League are missing or dead in JL 2, which allows room for sidekicks like Robin, Aqualad (who DC should get Michael B. Jordan for), Arsenal, and others to be brought to the forefront of the DCEU. Then once the missing League have been found or returned to safety, the sidekicks could form into the TITANS and have their own movie a few months after the conclusion of the second Justice League film. It’s a long shot but I could definitely see it happening.
However, I do feel as if a Suicide Squad sequel is more likely to open on this date. WB is showing a LOT of confidence in the upcoming supervillain team up film coming August 5th. Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie have all signed a multi-picture deals, so it’s all but confirmed that if Suicide Squad does well this summer that we’ll see a sequel soon. It’s all speculation at this point but if I had to personally pick one, I’d choose Titans.
What about you? What films could you see filling these dates? Let us know!
