‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Sequel May Introduce ‘Dark Phoenix’

“X-Men Apocalypse”, the next blockbuster due from Fox Studios, already has a pretty important storyline. The X-Men have their hands full this time when they face off against the first of mutant-kind. Apocalypse is nearly god-like with his powers and in the comic book event, it took more than a few clever tricks to outsmart the villain. Most would consider this storyline as enough for a movie. According to Simon Kinberg, producer of the next X-Men movie in the series, that may not be the only storyline they’re adapting:

“I think everything that hasn’t been told from First Class and Days of Future Past is up for grabs going forward, so it would absolutely be a story we could tell in a different way,”

“And Jean she has not only has her telekenisis and her telepathy but she also knows inherently that something darker and more powerful is growing inside her and she doesn’t quite know what it is.”

What this translates to is a movie releasing after the one next up to release focusing on the Dark Phoenix Saga. Dark Phoenix Saga isn’t necessarily a person in the comic books but a persistent issue within the X-Men itself. Dark Phoenix is a being made of dark energy that has been slowly growing inside “Jean Grey” since her inception into mutant-kind. Not only does the being give her a factor of dark energy to use with her telekineses, it also adds a dangerous amount of magnitude to her already massive power. No one knows if this storyline will take a backseat to the main storyline at hand or if it’ll be a major contributing factor in the film. ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is set to release May 19th this year. Sophie Turner has been casted as Jean Grey for the upcoming movie. Fans will recognize her from “Game of Thrones”.
