When news confirmed that the future of the rights to Spider-Man would be shared between Marvel Studios and Sony, fans went haywire; it was the moment that everyone had been waiting for. Could we be getting another moment like this sometime in the future? Statements made by Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, and Simon Kinberg, a producer for the X-Men franchise, surfaced yesterday at a press event saying how they’d be up for crossing their universe with that of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Miller had this to say on the matter:
“I would love to, someday, in part heal the rift between the world of ‘X-Men’ and the world of ‘Avengers’.”
This was followed by Kinberg’s statement:
“I think we all would, yeah. There’s so much crossover in the comics, it would be neat to one day see the characters share a movie. It would be fun to all team-up one day, somehow, together if that could work.”
Tim Miller and Simon Kinberg both could potentially have some pull in seeing this come into fruition; Miller’s visual effects studio, Blur Studios, has done work for both Marvel Studios as well as for Sony, on films such as Thor: The Dark World and Spider-Man. Kinberg is a writer and producer for LucasFilm, which shares ownership by Disney with Marvel Studios. So its good to know that if somewhere down the line this crossover begins to be discussed, the two men who could have the most say in that conversation are on board with the idea.
What do you guys think? Would it be awesome to see all of our favorite heroes come together on the big screen for one of the biggest moments in comic book movies of all time? What storyline would you like to see play out in such a film? Or would you prefer to keep the universes separate? Let us know in the comments as well as on our social media!
