Long before the release of Batman v Superman, it has been heavily rumored that Ben Affleck would write, direct, and star in the first installment of a new Dark Knight solo film. It seems almost certain to Affleck’s talent agency that he’s already written the script, however Snyder comments on the idea of a solo film still being up in the air.
“I keep working on him, he’s always said he’s a one movie at a time guy. He’s finishing editing his film, ‘Live by Night’, and then he comes to ‘Justice League’ and then after that, I think he’s going to try and develop the story. Then we’ll see if he likes it.”
Ahead of BvS, Affleck is contracted to appear in Suicide Squad, and Justice League parts one and two. Technically, those next three films will satisfy the parameters of Affleck’s contract. However, with the rave reviews that continue to pour in form critics and fans alike claiming that he brings the greatest Batman on the big screen to date, it would seem unfair to keep fans from seeing the caped crusader and the justice he is bringing to Gotham between the events of these four movies.
Regarding whether or not Affleck will direct the rumored solo film, Snyder had this to say:
“Oh yeah, for sure. I think he would. I think that’s kind of the prerequisite, hopefully, for him doing [the film].”
As an award winning director, fans have taken well to the rumor that Affleck would be directing his own solo film. Knowing that Snyder believes that Ben Affleck directing is part of some package deal for the movie to happen is all the more reassuring that if and when this does come into fruition, it will be under the majority of his direction.
