Warner Bros. and DC Comics upcoming superhero team-up film Justice League has added Ben Affleck, who will be reprising his role as the Caped Crusader, as an Executive Producer.
Zack Snyder will direct the film, following up his previous work on Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and screenwriter Chris Terrio is returning for the script. Affleck will also assist Chris Terrio with rewrites to the Justice League script, reportedly to help better align the film with Affleck’s solo Batman outing – which according to Forbes is rumored to be released in 2018, which Affleck also co-wrote with DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. Johns is a key player in the monthly release of DC’s comics and has crafted a plethora of groundbreaking and beloved stories for many characters throughout his career as a writer for DC. Johns has also been a major hand in the development of the DCEU along with work in the production and oversight on Justice League.
Part of Affleck’s role on Justice League will be assisting Snyder in the post production phase of the film, alongside the editing team. Affleck is a familiar name at Warner Bros. with multiple films including The Town, Argo, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Live By Night, The Accountant, Justice League Part I, and also the solo Batman film. All this proving Affleck is a strong creative hand at Warner Bros. even winning an Oscar for Best Picture with Argo, the film also brought an Academy Award to writer Chris Terrio for his screenplay. So it’s no surprise Affleck’s creative role in Justice League has been increased. Despite this reports that Affleck is taking the film away from Snyder are not true, his role is to assist the director in coordinating Justice League and the upcoming Batman film.
Suicide Squad comes out in a little under 3 months and gives us more of Ben Affleck’s interpretation of The Dark Knight as we see him square off with Jared Leto’s take on the Clown Prince of Crime for the first time in the DCEU. The hype and talk surrounding Suicide Squad is enormous. With many eagerly waiting for interactions between Batman, Joker, and seeing the first ever appearance of Harley Quinn on the big screen, portrayed by Margot Robbie. This movie has the potential to bring in huge numbers and legions of fans eager for more films in DC’s ever growing cinematic universe. And with Wonder Woman being a huge positive in Batman v Superman the upcoming Wonder Woman movie is looking to be a hit for the studio. News about Ben Affleck’s involvement in the production and oversight of Justice League is fantastic news for the movie and the future of the entire DCEU.
