Joe Russo Adresses Possibility Of Marvel Netflix Characters On The Big Screen

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been evolving and growing into the largest cinematic franchise in the world for eight years now, Marvel has also started expanding into the TV franchise, with shows like Marvel’s Agents Of Shield, Marvel’s Daredevil or Marvel’s Jessica Jones. But despite the general “Everything is connected” theme of the MCU, TV shows and movies have not really been crossing over aside from a few references and Easter Eggs here and there.

However, with the constant rumor of there being 68 characters in 2018’s and 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War, many fans assume that at least one of Marvel’s Netflix characters will wind up joining the Avengers; after all, it’s Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet they’re going to be dealing with. By the time Infinity War comes around, we’ll also have seen Luke Cage and Iron Fist on Netflix, and possibly even a team-up Defenders show.

Recently, on the press tour for Captain America: Civil War, co-director Joe Russo was asked that exact question, and his answer might discourage some Netflix fans:

The Marvel Universe is sprawling – the Marvel Cinematic Universe is enormous. Just think of all the characters that haven’t been introduced yet that are going to be introduced by the time that we’re working on Infinity War,” he said. “We have a tough task just telling the stories of the characters who exist [on the big screen] in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let alone adding the entire Marvel Television universe.”

However, he did not completely rule out the possibility:

“Anything is possible in the Marvel Universe. It’s certainly something we’re considering,” he teased. “But our focus is on telling the stories of the characters that currently exist on the movie side.”

Especially Marvel’s Netflix shows Daredevil and Jessica Jones have been praised by both critics and fans, which could very well be a factor in considering introducing them to the bigger MCU.
