John Boyega Talks About Star Wars Episode VIII

For the several years leading up to the release of the long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens, anticipation for the film was very high. Many of the film’s actors, writers, and other people involved with the film would help to fuel this anticipation by saying things regarding how amazing they believe the movie will be, or how different and better The Force Awakens is compared to its predecessors. After the film’s release and groundbreaking success in both the box office and by viewers, many have begun to await the next film with eager anticipation. Now, members of Star Wars: Episode VIII‘s cast have steadily begun to exclaim their opinions regarding the new film.

In a recent interview with John Boyega at the Cannes Festival, the Star Wars star spoke briefly on Episode VIII. Boyega was asked about transitioning from The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams to the new director, Rian Johnson, to which he said:

“It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger.”

After mentioning Johnson’s new director which will make a darker film, one which Boyega thinks will be even bigger than Abrams’, Boyega said he thinks many viewers will doubt Episode VIII will be an even bigger movie than The Force Awakens before its release. To this, he replied:

“Someone will say: ‘How do you get bigger than Force Awakens? But it’s crazy.”

After addressing the darker tone and bigger film of Episode VIII, Boyega continued talking about Star Wars after the topic of his relationship with Rey came up. He was asked about the potential romance with Rey that was hinted at in The Force Awakens, neither confirming or denying the possibility of Finn and Rey becoming a romantic couple. He was quoted, specifically saying:

“Yes, Finn and Rey – they’re just friends. Finn is a storm trooper, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on. So the romance thing is something that’s going to be interesting in the next installment. It’s not going to go the way you think it’s going to go.”

It is still early in the production process of Star Wars: Episode VIII, and little to no details regarding any aspects of the film have yet been released to the public. However, that does not stop fans from eagerly awaiting the arrival of this film, even if it does not come out for another year and a half.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 15th, 2017.
