Karl Urban has kept himself busy in the world of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. With his new movie Star Trek Beyond releasing in July, as well as rumors of another Dredd, it was surprising when Urban was cast to play the famous Thor villain Skurge.
Skurge is a relatively minor character in the Marvel Universe, but hardcore Thor fans will recognize him as the Executioner. Skurge is often seen in the comics following Enchantress around or working with the Masters of Evil. Now that Zemo, or Baron Zemo in the comics, was introduced in Captain America: Civil War this puts us one step closer to seeing the Masters of Evil in the MCU. We assume he will working for Hela, played by Cate Blanchette.
IGN recently caught up with Urban, who had to say this about the new project.
“I read a fantastic script that was action-packed and full of great characters. When I heard who was involved — and the cast list dropped yesterday — and [saw] the opportunity to work with [director] Taika Waititi, who I think is one of the most brilliant directors coming through, I made the decision it was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the character is fantastic. He’s got a great arc to him. Obviously, I can’t say too much about it, but I’m really thrilled to be a part of the Marvel universe and to be working on Thor: Ragnarok.”
Thor: Ragnarok will be released November 2017 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, and Cate Blanchett.
