Lupita Nyong’o to Join ‘Black Panther’ Cast?; Alexandra Shipp Wants Black Panther/ Storm Film

Lupita Nyong’o is two movies deep into Disney now and it sounds like Black Panther could be her third. She is known for having voiced Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rakasha in The Jungle Book, both of which have been received extraordinarily by fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no character information has been revealed beyond the fact that she would be playing T’Challa’s love interest.

Regardless of who she might be playing, there is a certain mutant from another universe who would like to see another woman in T’Challa’s life.

Alexandra Shipp, who will be playing Storm in this month’s X-Men: Apocalypse, has disclosed that she wants very badly for a Black Panther/Storm movie to happen:

“I want that movie so bad. I’ve got a pitch, I’m like coming up with a vision board, I want this movie to happen. Honestly it doesn’t have to be me – if Chadwick [Boseman] was like ‘you know what I really want to do this with Hallie’ I’d be like yo, that’s fine at least make the movie.”

It sounds like Shipp might be fighting hard to try to make this a reality. Talks have surfaced from both Marvel and X-Men recently about wanting to link the two franchises, so this isn’t totally outlandish. The characters do have a history in the comics, from fighting together to being married for a while, so it would be interesting to see how that relationship would grow in wake of the two universes colliding. Maybe somewhere far down the line fans will see a merger, but for now we have to focus on the bigger, more realistic question of who Nyong’o’s character will be.
