One of the biggest draws to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is right there in the name – it’s a connected universe. From blockbusters like The Avengers to hit Netflix series Daredevil and Jessica Jones everything takes place in the same universe. So naturally many fans have been eagerly awaiting for the eventual crossover, and the chance to see all of their favorite heroes sharing the screen. The obvious chance for this to happen is in the juggernaut film Infinity War, which will be the culmination of everything the MCU has been building up to since it’s inception and also what will pave the future for what Marvel Studios has next on their cinematic adventure.
Unfortunately, this might not happen. In a recent interview with BadTaste.it Joe and Anthony Russo talked about how daunting a task it is taking over the entire film side of Marvel and how difficult it can be juggling the stories of just these characters, let alone adding in the TV side of things. Here’s what they had to say:
“The Marvel Universe is sprawling – the Marvel Cinematic Universe is enormous. Just think of all the characters that haven’t been introduced yet that are going to be introduced by the time that we’re working on Infinity War. We have a tough task just telling the stories of the characters who exist [on the big screen] in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, let alone adding the entire Marvel Television universe.
Anything is possible in Marvel. It’s certainly something we’re considering. But our focus is on telling the stories of the characters that currently exist on the movie side.”
So there it is, we can’t rule out the possibility of The Defenders showing up in Infinity War but it wouldn’t be wise to start placing bets that they will. The fact that the Russo’s say it is something they are still considering does give fans some hope to hold on to.
