After seeing 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot, critics and fans alike have widely agreed that it was a far cry from fantastic. Simon Kinberg knows that it was not a good film, but when asked about the team’s onscreen future at the X-Men: Apocalypse junket, here’s what he had to say:
“We want to make another Fantastic Four movie. We love that cast. I love the comic, I mean I love it almost as much as X-Men. We’ll try to be truer to the essence of Fantastic Four, which is largely distinct from the X-Men, which is brighter, funner, more optimistic in tone.”
Despite having pulled the sequel from their release date schedule they still have hope in the franchise, and skeptical is an understatement to describe fans. The skepticism with the initial reboot was high, but nobody thought it would flop worse than the original two films. Now that expression of desire for a sequel has surfaced, it seems almost inevitable that comic fans and moviegoers will petition it to their fullest extent. Nobody wants to see beloved heroes flop on the big screen, but who knows; maybe Kinberg will manage to find a way to finally create a Fantastic Four that fans will respect and love.
