Following the very positive reception of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man by many, fans await the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, with eager anticipation. Since the premiere of Ant-Man last summer and Ant-Man’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War, fans love Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and want more. Even though Ant-Man and the Wasp is Ant-Man’s sequel, it will also feature the return of Evangeline Lilly who will finally wear the Wasp suit and fight alongside Ant-Man. The Wasp suit was never worn in Ant-Man, as it was only teased she would wear for any upcoming films during the after-credits scene.
The director of Ant-Man and the Wasp, Peyton Reed, was recently interviewed in regards to his upcoming contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reed mentioned how this will not only be an Ant-Man film, but a Wasp film as well. The Wasp will not be a supporting character, but a main character who will form a team with Ant-Man. He was quoted, saying:
“It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that’s a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like. To show her finally fully formed in this movie is really exciting. We really get to introduce this character into that universe. I mean we’ve introduced the character, but we haven’t seen her with her full power set and everything, so to me she’s not a supporting character in this movie. It’s every bit as much her movie as it is Scott Lang’s.”
As the interview continued, the film’s director was also asked how Ant-Man’s participation in the events of Captain America: Civil War will influence Scott Lang in upcoming films:
“Well he’s a fugitive in most of the first Ant-Man movie. He’s just a bigger fugitive now. I think that’s one of the fun things and challenges about the Marvel movies for us, for the directors and for the writers, is you do have to sort of consider what happened in the previous movies in terms of your jumping-off point for those characters. It’s something we talked a lot about early on and we definitely have stuff figured out, so there will be some big leaps forward.”
Reed was also asked whether Michael Pena’s Luis and Scott’s other friends would be making a comeback for the Ant-Man sequel. Luis and the rest of the gang were one of the reasons Ant-Man was so well received, as they added plenty of humor to the film. Reed replied, saying:
“Oh there’s definitely a chance! I’d say there’s a fighting chance for that to happen.”
Evangeline Lilly will don the Wasp suit for the first time as Ant-Man and the Wasp arrives in theaters on July 6th, 2018.
