As we approach July 4th, the date Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled to begin filming at the Village Roadshow Studios in Australia, two images of the film’s set were recently released by the Gold Coast Bulletin. It is reported many of the film’s sets are being constructed outside for the scenes which will take place in Asgard, including the images shown below which are set pieces for Thor’s home planet.
Ragnarok director Taika Waititi was also recently interviewed by the Gold Coast Bulletin, where he was asked about collaborating with Marvel Studios for the first time. This will be Waititi’s first “major” film, as he has never worked on a project as big as this. He was quoted, saying:
“I’ve been hanging out with Chris and I’ve been working on the script with the writer, designing swords and things and looking at pieces of armour. I am an outside choice for Thor for sure – even I see that – but that’s what’s good about Marvel, what’s great about it. They’re able to do that and it’s paid off for them – getting people who aren’t the natural choice. You see it again and again, so I’m very comfortable in the role. I’m weirdly relaxed.”
Although Waititi has never worked on a film quite like a Marvel film, it appears he accepting this responsibility well, which will hopefully lead to a great contribution to the Thor series. The two previous Thor films are known to be some of the weaker contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so hopefully Taika Waititi’s directing, the addition of the Hulk, and the return of Loki will result in a strong film.
Thor: Ragnarok will begin filming on July 4th, and it will arrive in theaters on November 3rd of next year.
