Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequels, received plenty of negative criticism for his performance as the young Darth Vader. While the prequels had many problems, many fans considered Christensen to be one of those problems. However, Christensen just recently stated his willingness to return to the franchise.
During an interview with ETalk, Christensen talked about his experience with Star Wars and how big of an impact it had on his life. He was asked if he would ever consider returning to the franchise, to which he said:
“Absolutely. In a heartbeat, for sure. Being a part of that world was a huge deal for me, and was a good four/five years of my life. I have fond memories and good friendships from that whole time. But if they ever gave me the call, I would sign up in a heartbeat.”
While many fans complained about the prequels for many reasons, including writing and directing, it is possible Christensen returning in a future movie can be done right with the proper writing. A small cameo would serve much better than if Christensen were to return for the majority of a film, which is still unlikely to happen.
Although many movies are already scheduled to be made, the possibility for an Anakin Skywalker flashback in these films is still open. Another possibility includes Skywalker’s involvement in a spinoff that may take place before the Galactic Civil War, before his transformation to Darth Vader. Disney is currently planning on making three spinoff films, including Rogue One and a Han Solo origin film, so the third and final spinoff film would be the only opportunity for that. While the possibilities are there, it is up to the studio to decide whether Christensen returning is something worth doing.
