With the filming of Spider-Man: Homecoming commencing this month in Atlanta, there has been plenty of casting announcements these past few weeks. The latest of these includes actor and comedian Martin Starr, who was just recently announced to join the highly-anticipated Marvel blockbuster. No details have yet to be revealed concerning Starr’s role, but Marvel will surely release that information within the coming weeks of the film’s production.
Similar to Kenneth Choi, who was just recently announced to join Spider-Man: Homecoming, this will not be Martin Starr’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Choi, who played a member of the Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger, will now play a completely different and unrelated role in Homecoming. Starr first appeared in The Incredible Hulk briefly, appearing as the character Bruce Banner bribed with pizza to get into the computer lab. Due to the lack of importance of Starr’s role in The Incredible Hulk, it is very unlikely he will reprise that role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Starr has appeared in many comedy films and television shows, including the show Freaks and Geeks and movies such as Knocked Up, This is the End, and Superbad. Considering his history of comedic roles in both television and movies, it is possible Marvel chose Starr to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming to contribute to their signature humor which is present in each MCU film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will premiere in theaters July 7th, 2017.
