Michael Barbieri Joins Cast Of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man solo adventure is about to start its principal photography this summer, and thus the cast is growing quickly, with 14 year old New Yorker Michael Barbieri (Dark Tower) being the latest addition.

According to Heroic Hollywood, Barbieri will be playing one of Peter Parker’s friends, and actually originally auditioned for the role of the web slinger himself, but didn’t quite make the cut. However, he made an impression on the producers, and so they approached him about this new role.

Comicbook.com offers some additional details:

“Comicbook.com sources tell us Barbieri’s character will be a new one, though he’ll be based off the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ character Ganke. In that comicbook from Marvel Comics, Ganke is the trusted best friend of the other Spider-Man, Miles Morales. His affinity for Superheroes and unwavering optimism and support of his friend are his standout characteristics, which can be expected to be found in Barbieri’s new character.”

Barbieri is now in the company of Robert Downey Jr. who we’ll see in his iconic role of Tony Stark/Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Michael Keaton as the main villain (which is heavily rumored to be The Vulture) and Zendaya.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled to release July 7, 2017.
