With the majority of the comic book movies in 2016 behind us, many DC fans are looking forward to the August release of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Now, thanks to Total Film magazine, we have new photos and character info to talk about!
In these new images we can see filming and consulting on scenes as well as character shots of Harley Quinn, Katana, and Killer Croc. There are also some awesome team shots. These pictures once again show the darker tone of the DC Movies and their differences from Marvel Studios.
Total Film was also able to snag some new information about the encounters Task Force X will have in the film. The creatures that have been shown in some leaked set pictures are now confirmed to be Eyes Of The Adversary according to producer Charles Roven, who said this about them.
“Let’s just say, when they’re called in to do this mission by Amanda [Waller], these are one of the things they encounter,” Roven explained. “They don’t know how they got here, but they’re weird and dangerous and yet they’re wearing military uniforms.”
Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, was interviewed about her character. Her character is one of the protagonists and is much-anticipated by the fans. Here is what Robbie had to say about the character.
“She is a very cheerful, bubbly sort of person. A lot of the comments were like, ‘She has this unflappable sense of humor. She’s so bubbly. She loves the Joker so much.’ So I definitely didn’t want to lose that. Having said that, [David Ayer’s] approach is the much darker side of the story, so it’s a bit of both,” Robbie said.
“Harley’s story is about her relationships — not just with him, but finding herself and her independence. Their relationship is nuts. It’s terrifying. She’s co-dependent with the Joker, and when you see that, you start seeing it as a mental illness.”
Her comments seem to fit well with her character, and gives hardcore Harley fans an idea of what Robbie will portray on-screen. Jai Courtney, who will be playing Captain Boomerang, also spoke about his character.
“He’s sexist, he’s racist, he’s a total piece of shit and that’s something I’ve embraced fully,” Courtney said. “It’s Boomer’s job to state the obvious, do the wrong thing and annoy everybody with his ignorance.”
Suicide Squad comes out August 5th, 2016 and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Jared Leto as the Joker.
