While the movie is still in development, writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) seem to be pretty confident this movie will win people over in a world dominated by live action comic book movies. While this movie might be regarded by some as an afterthought due to the sudden re-emergence of Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man and the recent announcement of a video game available on next-gen consoles later this year, not much is left to speculate about the animated movie.
The writers have confirmed that the movie will be operate from any live action adaptations. Other than that, not much information has been released. The movie does have a December 21, 2018 release and recent rumors suggest the titular character will be Miles Morales. Miles Morales is a Hispanic/African-American mix and the second person to take the mantle of the hero after Peter Parker. When asked if Parker would be included in the movie itself, writers chose to plead the fifth to keep fans speculating.
While Spider-Man movies are easily criticized due to its high number of reboots (we’ve seen 3 reboots and 6 movies with Spider-Man in them), Lord promises this movie will stand in a category on its own and will be a unique experience.
