Upcoming Spider-Man Game Not Connected To Marvel Cinematic Universe

Following Spidey’s big welcome home in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, fans are getting another dose of their favorite wall-crawler from Sony and Insomniac. However, these two iterations of the character will not be intertwined to any capacity, as Marvel’s game head Jay Ong stated in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. They are looking to create a universe all their own for Spider-Man and any other Marvel characters that may appear.

With regards to the freedom they are being given on the project, Insomniac had this to say:

“When we tell people that they aren’t just building a movie game, that opens up their eyes. ‘You mean we have the freedom to invest and deliver the title that we want to deliver?’ They don’t have to meet some artificial date. We give them time. We initiate projects far earlier than we used to.”

I am very curious to see how Sony and Insomniac handle creating a world for Spider-Man in the video game realm. It’s as though he’s joined the MCU, but we still get the completely separate universe that is all his own (albeit in game form) that we got with Sony’s installments of Spidey films separate from the MCU. Sony said that have ceased their partnership with Activision in terms of Spider-Man games, and that Insomniac is their future for the character. So they seem to have a lot of faith in this company, and perhaps they will be able to create a game where players become engrossed in the story and want to keep playing installments to see how the story of this web-slinger unfolds.
