Is Richard Ryder Retaking The Nova Mantle In Marvel’s Comics?

Fans of Marvel comics are getting changes made to their favorite characters left and right these days; Jane Foster is now Thor, Amadeus Cho is the Hulk, Riri Williams is slated to take the Iron Man mantle, etc. However, Marvel may be bringing back one of their original characters: Richard Ryder.

Last night a large number of covers and concept art was leaked from Marvel’s upcoming ‘Marvel NOW!’ with this being one of the images:

For those unaware, Richard Ryder was chosen by the Nova Corps to don the Centurion armor and help protect the galaxy as Nova. When Richard died, the mantle was passed to its current holder, Sam  Alexander (who also appears on the Ultimate Spider-Man TV animated series). What is interesting is that production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is well underway, and in he first one we got a glimpse at the Nova Corps. One member in particular, John C. Reilly’s Rhomann Dey, is the member of the Corps who chose to make Richard Ryder Nova. Could we see that come to fruition in the GotG sequel and so Marvel wants to bring Ryder back into prominence in the comics? Nothing has been mentioned of that thus far but there’s always the possibility until it’s been ruled out so we’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for the return of Richard Ryder? Or do you prefer Sam Alexander’s Nova better?  Let us know in the comments as well as on our Twitter and Instagram!
