A week ago we reported that a Black Lightning TV series would be coming from Greg Berlanti. With the majority of the DCTV shows on the CW, many assumed that the series would go there right away. However, with four DC television shows airing on the network currently, it wouldn’t make sense for the network to take on another series. Now it was officially announced that a pilot for Black Lightning has been ordered by Fox.
The series will be produced by Greg Berlanti (The Flash) and written by the husband-wife team of Salim and Mara Brock Akil. With shows like Lucifer and Gotham already on the network, it makes sense that the series would land there. However, it is not expected to crossover with either of those shows. More than likely the character could appear in a later season of the CW shows. No one has been cast and no filming plans have been set. The series will most likely not get a pilot release until Spring or Fall of next year.
While we still may be far away from a Black Lightning series, we can still watch all of the DC series when they return over the next couple weeks. Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow return this October. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Luke Cage hit ABC and Netflix later this month. Finally, Lucifer and Gotham return later this month as well.
