With his series of novels, A Song Of Ice And Fire, George R. R. Martin has created a gigantic, unique world that offers a vast number of potential storylines that delve much deeper into the history of Westeros than HBO’s Game Of Thrones ever did. A potential Game Of Thrones prequel has been rumored for quite a while, especially since last season explored the past of some key characters, showing a younger version of Eddard “Ned” Stark.
In an interview with The Wrap, HBO programming president Casey Bloys confirms that they are in fact toying with the idea of a prequel.
“We’ve talked very, very kind of high-level, like, ‘Oh that would be interesting, a prequel would be interesting, are there areas that make more sense?’ But we haven’t — no one has put pen to paper — yet. It’s still pretty early on. But, it’s such a great world and it’s such a great property, we’d be crazy not to at least explore the idea of some sort of prequel or whatever you want to call it. So, we are thinking about it, talking about it, but nothing really of note to report just yet.”
Now, even though it seems like the project is not ruled out completely, it’s safe to assume that talks about a Game Of Thrones spin-off won’t be serious until the original series’ end, which is expected to be in 2018. But still, that won’t stop us from speculating; what would you like to see in a prequel? The history of House Targaryen? Sound off in the comments below or on Twitter / Instagram!
