Marvel’s Victoria Alonso To Receive Visual Effects Award

Since 2008, Marvel has dominated the superhero movie industry with great acting, memorable scenes, and of course, the dazzling special effects. Now, Marvel’s own Victoria Alonso is finally receiving recognition for her remarkable work in producing them. Alonso started off as a low-budget commercial VFX producer, before moving on to producing effects for the silver screen. In the MCU alone, Alonso has producing credits for Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Thor: Ragnarok. Alonso’s work encompasses nearly all of the MCU’s films, and has ensured that the visual effects of the cinematic universe remain fresh, creative, and unique.

Her work was only further bolstered when Marvel’s latest film, Doctor Strange, was released to acclaim for its tremendous, mind-twisting visuals and seamless special effects. As a result of her groundbreaking work on the MCU, the Visual Effects Society (VES) has decided to give the VES Visionary Award to Alonso. This award is a prestigious and remarkable achievement, and has previously been given to the likes of Christopher Nolan, Alfonso Cuarón, Ang Lee, Syd Mead, and J.J. Abrams. On why Alonso was chosen to receive the award, VES board chair Mike Chambers said this:

“Victoria has elevated visual effects as an integral element of the art and business of moviemaking. She is an amazing creative force and powerhouse producer, whose unique vision has delivered some of the most popular movie franchises of all time.  Her leadership in the industry is paving the way for future generations of artists and producers and she has helped redefine the profile of visual effects on a global scale.  We are very proud to honor such an exemplary role model with the VES Visionary Award.”

Alonso will receive the VES Visionary Award at the 15th Annual VES Awards on February 7, 2017.
