‘The Flash’ Season 3 Episode 6 Review

*Spoilers Below For season 3, episode 6 of The Flash*

Things are steadily picking up this season for The Flash. Tonight, we saw Wally come so close to getting his speed from Flashpoint, Cisco vibes that Caitlin will become Killer Frost (and fight him as Vibe) in the future, Julian becomes a bit more mysterious, and the episode ends with Savitar revealing himself to Barry.

A few weeks ago after seeing both the Rival and Magenta brought over from Flashpoint by Dr. Alchemy, I predicted the team would use Wally as bait to capture Alchemy and also give him the speed from his Flashpoint life. Tonight we saw this come to fruition, to an extent. The visions of Alchemy are more frequent, and this leads to Wally and the team devising the plan of setting Alchemy up using himself as bait. Despite Alchemy getting away, Wally is drawn to an object he left behind and upon grabbing it he is wrapped in what looks like a speedforce cocoon. We can only hope that by next week, Kid Flash will be back to fight with Flash. Although we saw some of the more aggressive side come out of Wally, it doesn’t seem likely that they’d pin him against Barry once he gets his speed back.

This new subplot with Caitlin of Earth 1 becoming Killer Frost in the post-Flashpoint timeline is really taking us for a ride. Since she has come into her powers, we have seen her more vicious side coming out towards her mother, her mother’s colleague, and now Cisco. Since he vibed that he was fighting her as full-on Killer Frost, these already existing tendencies are pointing her down the path of evil. Despite this, she seems at ease by the end of the episode when talking to Cisco who vows to help her figure it out. Then again, next week’s promo showed her taking up the same sort of tone with Barry as she did with Cisco. Whether or not she will have more chilling outbursts however, remains to be seen. It would be interesting to see that dynamic change between her and the team.

Julian isn’t very present in this episode, but while he’s there he enshrouds himself further in mystery. When rejecting Barry’s second attempt to hang out because he’s seeing his girlfriend Barry tells him he didn’t know he was in a relationship, and he replies with “There’s a lot you don’t know about me”. If this isn’t enough, he looks very anxious when Barry is told he is being assigned to the meta human cases full-time. Are these clues enough to assume Julian is a meta himself? Perhaps even Alchemy? If there’s one thing this show knows how to do is throw the audience for a ride when trying to figure characters out. It’s only 6 episodes into the season so it’s hard to get a good read on him just yet.

When Alchemy got away, we saw a blue streak bouncing around the room and Barry warns everyone to get out. Once the blur is slowed so that we can make the figure out, he reveals himself as the being Savitar, God of Speed. This episode leaves us hanging as to where Alchemy has gone, where Savitar has come from, and why is he there? If he is true to his counterpart in the comics, he could be here to take Barry’s ability to use the Speedforce away because he is bent on being the fastest. Perhaps Alchemy and Savitar could even have a sort of partnership to take Flash down. This is all just speculation, nothing is concrete. We’ll have to wait and see how it all unfolds, but be sure to stay tuned for updates!
