It was announced by Fox back in 2016 that they were currently developing a series with Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti on Black Lighting, one of DC Comics’ first major African American superheroes. With the knowledge of Berlanti’s involvement in the series, many immediately assumed that the upcoming show would cross over with the likes of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends. Not so fast. When asked, the producer took the question head on and responded with the following:
“I don’t think so. If we’re lucky enough that that exists, that that show exists, I don’t think those worlds will cross over.”
I think it’s worth mentioning that Berlanti’s original plan for Supergirl was to have her not crossover with the CW DC heroes and we all saw how that turned out. Even though Supergirl’s universe is not directly attached to the Arrowverse (her show exists on a different earth) she’ll still be mentioned and hinted at until her eventual reappearance on one of the DCTV shows.
It’s possible the same could happen to Black Lightning, should the show be successful.
In case you missed it, an official synopsis for show was released alongside its initial announcement.
“Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.”
Black Lightning is currently without a release date.
