With the release of Kingsman: The Secret Service in 2014, many praised the film and claimed it to usher in the return of classic spy films. Since the film was given positive reviews around the board, fans of the film have been awaiting the sequel with eager anticipation. Even as we approach the September release date, the film has yet to release any footage or much information regarding the film at all. However, as a part of the Kingsman panel at CinemaCon, the film’s first official synopsis was revealed along with a new poster.
The Kingsman: The Golden Circle official synopsis can be read below accompanied by the new poster:
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…
While the synopsis did serve to give slight insight as to what the film’s plot will entail, it was rather vague as it did not give many specific details. Regardless, the synopsis mentions the character who is considered by many to be the first film’s shining star, Eggsy who is played by Taron Egerton, although his role in the film is also still quite vague. One character who was not mentioned in the synopsis but whose actor’s name is listed on the poster is Colin Firth’s Galahad, which is intriguing considering his character was shot in the head and clearly murdered in the first film. With the confirm return of Colin Firth and his character despite his death, many fans are yearning for answers as to how he is returning, yet those questioning it will have to wait a bit longer as the synopsis failed to explain it.
Matthew Vaughn is set to return and direct The Golden Circle following his successful directorial showing in the first film. Taron Egerton and Colin Firth will return along with newcomers that include Julianne Moore as the film’s villain, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Vinnie Jones and Elton John.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set to arrive in theaters on September 27th, 2017.
