After recently confirming that a third Guardians Of The Galaxy film is definitely coming, director James Gunn has also opened up about the Guardians’ role in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War, which will mark the first time Star-Lord’s team encounters the Avengers. And while the film will, at its core, remain Avengers-centered, the Guardians are still an important element when it comes to these cosmic Thanos stories:
“I don’t think we should overstate things that it is an ‘Avengers’ movie, but the Guardians are a part of the cosmic universe,” Gunn said, “they’re a part of Thanos’ stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but, an integral part to that.”
Gunn also revealed that he played a major part in the Guardians’ Infinity War involvement, which included giving advice to Joe and Anthony Russo:
“I’ve been heavily involved in what the Guardians do in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. I gave [directors Joe & Anthony Russo] tons of advice on how to direct the actors, talked to them a lot during the shooting, and talked to the actors a lot during the shooting to make sure that the Guardians are staying authentic.”
While Infinity War marks the first time the Russos worked with the Guardians cast, Gunn already has two films on his resume. He knows those characters in and out and how to direct the actors to unleash their full potential, so it only makes sense that he was present on the set of IW.
