Aside from what we got in the last Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer, we haven’t gotten much word on Ego, who will be portrayed by Kurt Russell. In a recent interview with Empire, Russell opened up a bit about the role.
“I’ve never played anybody bigger! I’ve never played a character with broader possibilities, I’ll say that.”
It’s great knowing that he is so enthused about taking on this character, and that he believes himself to be the perfect fit. Both Russell and James Gunn have commented on this.
Russell: “Fifteen minutes in (to the first ‘Guardians’ film), I said, ‘I think I see why they’re coming to me.’ The baggage I bring from some of the movies I’ve done is the right kind of baggage to bring into this one.”
Gunn: “I started writing for Kurt as I was finishing the screenplay. I would have been really disappointed if he’d said no.”
James Gunn then went on to talk about how Ego is going to be the biggest visual effect in the history of film.
“We have over a trillion polygons on Ego’s planet,” says Gunn proudly. “It’s the biggest visual effect of all time. There’s nothing even close to it. Which is cool.”
With the visual spectacle that is Doctor Strange already under our belts, fans are surely going to be intrigued by what exactly Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has in store for Ego. Be sure to stay tuned for updates on all things Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2!
