For those that remember 2013 blockbuster World War Z you may recall some of the drama that went behind the scenes. The sequel to the film was recently pulled form its June 2017 release date with no new date set. But perhaps it’s not because of drama with the studio or stars. Collider recently had the chance to speak to producer of the film, David Ellison, at SXSW for the premier of the new movie Life. He was asked about the status of the future film where he said:
“There’s a script that we’re incredibly happy with, and it’s just getting a couple of key deals closed… We hope [Fincher] makes the movie.”
Fincher was recently in the mix of directing the film when we reported last month. First, it is great to hear that they are happy with the script. Steven Knight did turn one in last year but no word on who did the recent draft. Now, add on the approved script with potentially directed by David Fincher? This could turn a lot of people who were on the fence about the first into the theaters to see this. Fincher is one of the best filmmakers in our lifetime and definitely gets all of us excited. With examples like The Social Network, Zodiac, Gone Girl, and Se7en, we could easily be in the boat where the sequel is better than the first film just by this being in his hands. Let’s hope he signs on and production begins soon.
World War Z 2 is expected to release in 2018
