Sony Reportedly Expanding Its Own ‘Spider-Verse’ With ‘Black Cat And Silver Sable’ Film

Last week, news broke that Sony Pictures are developing a live-action Venom movie, which is reportedly set to hit theaters in October of 2018. The report stated that this film would not be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which sparked rumors that Sony are trying to build their own, independent Spider-Man universe, as Tom Holland’s version of the web-slinger is now part of the MCU.

Now, another report is adding, even more, validity to this; according to THR, a Black Cat And Silver Sable film is also in development at Sony (both of those characters are key elements of the Spider-Man comics lore) and Thor: Ragnarok screenwriter Chris Yost is said to have been tapped to develop a script while Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal (The Amazing Spider-Man) are the supposed producers.

This begs the question whether Sony are actually trying to set up an entire universe with a new Spider-Man or if these films are going to be mere stand-alones with Spider-Man characters; however, the former is much more likely.
