‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Footage At CinemaCon Teases Rey With Lightsaber

When Star Wars returned to the big screen after a ten-year hiatus with The Force Awakens in 2015, fans raved over not only the return of old characters but the introduction of new characters such as Rey, Finn, and Poe. While the film gave a considerably fair amount of time between both the new characters and the old, a popular consensus among fans was Rey was the shining star among new characters and Luke should have given more screen time (or at least one line). As a result of this, fans have awaited the return of Luke and Rey on the big screen in The Last Jedi since their involvement together was the final scene teased in The Force Awakens.

Fans have been yearning for the first trailer for The Last Jedi for months now as the hopes to see Luke and Rey are as strong as ever. While the trailer is likely not to be released until mid-April or so during Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, a small bit of footage was recently shown at the Star Wars panel during CinemaCon. While the footage shown at the panel was reported to be only several seconds long, it featured Rey wielding Luke’s lightsaber while he was training with her on Ahch-To, the island where Luke and Rey met at the conclusion of The Force Awakens.

The reveal of The Last Jedi featuring moments of Luke training with Rey likely does not come as much of a surprise to many fans. Regardless, this small bit of footage of the two together is footage many fans likely would go to great lengths to see as soon as possible. The most notable takeaway from this reveal is Rey using Luke’s lightsaber, which can be presumed Luke is allowing her to keep. The footage description did not reveal whether or not Luke was using a lightsaber as well, but many fans are hoping to see Luke use his Return of the Jedi green lightsaber in the events of The Last Jedi, another feature that many hope to see in the upcoming trailer.

Rey and Luke will return when Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi arrives in theaters December 15th.
