The Flash has been a huge success on The CW, with the show not being afraid to tackle fantastical storylines. From time-travel, to alternate dimensions, to Giant telepathic gorillas, the show clearly isn’t afraid to get weird. Flash producer Andrew Kreisberg at Paleyfest said season 4 of this show will be much different because of its non-speedster main villain.
He’s like Flash, but yellow
“Next season, we’re not going to have a speedster as the main bad guy,” Kreisberg said
Kreisberg’s statement was met with big applause. One criticism the show has gotten over the last 3 seasons is the show’s main villain seems to always be a speedster. Reverse Flash, Zoom, and Savitar are all villains that happen to be run as fast as the Flash. Some have said that that formula has gotten stale, and Team Flash needs a different threat in order to stay interesting.
Flash has a rich rogue gallery that the show really hasn’t tapped into yet. Some of them have only appeared as a freak of the week. While villains like Heat-Wave and Captain Cold have become anti-heroes. Hopefully the show starts using Flash’s more famous villains in the comics.
Let’s dedicate a season to these guys
Kreisberg went on to explain why they went with Savitar.
“With Savitar, we know who he is, and we’ve been planning this for a while,” said Kreisberg. “The first two seasons were about having fun with his powers, and this season for Barry [Gustin] is really about the pitfalls of having powers, and that’s the story we wanted to tell. That’s why Savitar was the perfect villain for that story.”
Fans are wondering who Savitar might be. It was revealed that his metal exterior is a body of armor. The answers to Savitar’ s origin will most likely be answered near the season finale.
