We know that James Gunn will be returning to pen and helm the third movie in the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise which likely won’t hit theatres until around 2020. Given that the film is so far away, it means we won’t know any story details for a long while. However James Gunn has revealed that the third movie will be the final chapter of the current Guardians story…
“I think really that the three movies work together as a whole, they’re going to tell one story. This is the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and we’re going to get to know the characters even better in the same way we got to know them much better in this film than the first one.”
From Gunn’s words it seems as though by the end of Volume 3 we could be seeing a different incarnation of the team. Fans of the comics will know that the Guardians have had many members past the 5 that we are currently seeing on screen, including Iron Man, Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock who recently, James Gunn and Marvel studios president Kevin Feige stated would be a large part of the future Marvel cosmic universe.
With Mantis, Yondu and Nebula seemingly joining the Guardians in Guardians of The Galaxy: Volume 2 we can already see the roster changing. The fact that the team could be changing might be hinting at the death of a Guardian in Volume 3 but this is pure speculation.
