‘Obi-Wan’ Standalone Officially In Early Development

It looks like the next Star Wars film after Episode IX might’ve just been revealed. According to Hollywood Reporter, an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film has been announced to be in the early stages of development, with Stephen Daldry in talks to direct the movie.

This film has been rumored to be in the works for a long time. Obi-Wan is a fan favorite character who has been in six Star Wars films. He is a jedi master who trains Anakin Skywalker and his son Luke. The film will most likely explore the years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, where he is on Tatooine looking after Luke.

The role has been played by Sir Alec Guinness in the original trilogy and Ewan McGregor in the prequel trilogy. McGregor has been rumored to be attached to this film, because he can still very much play the role.

This film will be outside of the main saga films, and will be more like Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo.

Daldry has directed films like Billy Elliot and The Hours, and has directed an episode of Netflix’s The Crown.
