Patty Jenkins On ‘Wonder Woman’ Success And Plans For Sequel

Wonder Woman has become the highest grossing live-action movie directed by a woman director. The film broke many barriers when it comes to female-led superhero films.

“It’s actually been interesting seeing peoples’ reactions to this,” said Jenkins. “Particularly women coming up and saying, ‘That action scene was made for me! I don’t even like action movies!’ There is something about this movie that felt like it was speaking to [women] more than they had seen before because of the point of view being slightly different. I think that has been remarkable.”

Jenkins reacted to the financial and critical success of the movie by saying this:

“It’s wonderful, it’s what you hope for. You work so hard on [films] for so long, everybody that makes them hopes for success in every way they can possibly get it. So it’s felt very lucky and incredible to get both.”

After the success of Wonder Woman, everyone is looking forward to see Diana Prince in Wonder Woman 2 in 2019. Patty Jenkins has been reported to be in final negotiations to return to direct and she already has plans for the sequel that include a full-blown Wonder Woman,

“The greatest thing about making this [the first Wonder Woman] movie was the fact that you’re really building to the Wonder Woman that we all love, but not until the end of the movie. The most exciting thing about [the sequel] is literally seeing her loose in the world now, living those classic stories. Here’s Wonder Woman, and what can she do? It should be a totally different movie, but a grand and now full-blown Wonder Woman in the world.”

During the final battle with Ares, Diana unleashes her full power, that gives Superman a run for his money. It’ll be exciting to see Wonder Woman in a new time period, with her full powers.

Wonder Woman dealt with the character growing up and being exposed to the cruel world of man. When we see her again in her solo adventure, she will be more experienced.

This film has garnered some Academy Awards buzz. Jenkins is flattered that those conversations are even happening.

“It’s an amazing honor, It was never what we thought. You don’t make a movie like this assuming it would happen so, wow, it is an honor.”
